The Indian Tipi : Its History, Construction, and Use (0806122366)

When the first edition of this book was published in 1957, the art of making a tipi was almost lost, even among American Indians. Since that time a tremendous resurgence of interest in the Indian way of life has occurred, resurgence due in part, at least, to the Laubins' life-long efforts at preservation and interpretation of Indian culture. As The Indian Tipi makes obvious, the American Indian is both a practical person and a natural artist. Indian inventions are commonly both serviceable and beautiful. Other tents are hard to pitch, hot in summer, cold in winter, poorly lighted, unventilated, easily blown down, and ugly to boot. The conical tipi of the Plains Indian has none of these faults. It can be pitched by one person. It is roomy, well ventilated at all times, cool in summer, well lighted, proof against high winds and heavy downpours, and, with its cheerful fire inside, snug in the severest winter weather. Moreover, its tilted cone, trim smoke flaps, and crown of poles, pres

Donald Judd: Complete Writings 1959-1975 : Gallery Reviews * Book Reviews * Articles * Letters to the Editor * Reports * Statements * Complaints (9781938922930)

This is the complete, authorized collection of Donald Judd's early art criticism and polemical writings; it includes his landmark essay Specific Objects plus more than 500 contemporary art reviews he wrote on key artists and exhibitions of the 1960s.

Complete Writings 1959-1975 was first published in 1975 by The Press of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and since then it has been the primary source for Donald Judd's early writing. Working as an art critic for the magazines Arts, Arts Magazine and, later, Art International, Judd regularly contributed reviews of contemporary art exhibitions between 1959 and 1965, but continued to write throughout his life on a broad range of subjects. In his reviews and essays, Judd discussed in detail the work of more than 500 artists showing in New York in the early and mid-1960s, and provided a critical account of this significant era of art in America. While addressing the social and political ramifications of art production, the writings frequently addressed the work of such artists as Jackson Pollock, Kazimir Malevich, Barnett Newman, Ad Reinhardt, Lee Bontecou, Yayoi Kusama, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Kenneth Noland and Claes Oldenburg. Judd's essay Specific Objects, first published in 1965, remains central to the analysis of the new art developed in the early 1960s. Other essays included in this publication are Complaints I (1969), Complaints II (1973) and his previously unpublished essay Imperialism, Nationalism and Regionalism (1975), all of which establish the polemical importance of Judd's writing.
Donald Judd (1928-94) was born in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and after having served in the United States Army, attended the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia, and Columbia University, New York, where he received a BS in Philosophy, cum laude, in 1953. Studying at the Art Students League, Judd began his artistic career as a painter and transitioned to three-dimensional work in the early 1960s. Throughout his lifetime, in his writings and his work, he advocated for the importance of art and the artist's role in society.

The STM32F103 Arm Microcontroller and Embedded Systems : Using Assembly and C (9781970054019)

The STM32F103 microcontroller from ST is one of the widely used ARM microcontrollers. The blue pill board is based on STM32F103 microcontroller. It has a low price and it is widely available around the world. This book uses the blue pill board to discuss designing embedded systems using STM32F103. In this book, the authors use a step-by-step and systematic approach to show the programming of the STM32 chip. Examples show how to program many of the STM32F10x features, such as timers, serial communication, ADC, SPI, I2C, and PWM.To write programs for Arm microcontrollers you need to know both Assembly and C languages. So, the text is organized into two parts: 1) The first 6 chapters cover the Arm Assembly language programming. 2) Chapters 7-19 uses C to show the STM32F10x peripherals and I/O interfacing to real-world devices such as keypad, 7-segment, character and graphic LCDs, motor, and sensor. The source codes, power points, tutorials, and support materials for the book is availab

When Money Destroys Nations : How Hyperinflation Ruined Zimbabwe, How Ordinary People Survived, and Warnings for Nations that Print Money (0620590033)

Since the global financial crisis of 2008, the major governments of the world have resorted to printing vast sums of money to pay national debts and bail out banks. The warning signs are clear, and the collapse of the Zimbabwean dollar in 2009 after years of rampant money printing is a frightening example of what lies in store for the world's economies if painful, but necessary, reform is not enacted soon. When Money Destroys Nations tells the gripping story of the disintegration of the once-thriving Zimbabwean economy and how ordinary people survived in turbulent circumstances. Analysing this case within a global context, Philip Haslam and Russell Lamberti investigate the causes of hyperinflation and draw ominous parallels between Zimbabwe and the world's developed economies. The looming currency crises and possible hyperinflation in these major economies, particularly the United States, have the potential to turn the current world order upside down. Zimbabwe's lessons mus
